CFA EU DEI Code Roundtable

16 October 2024

On Wednesday, October 2, 2024, CFA Society Italy, in collaboration with CFA Institute, hosted a roundtable on "Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) in the investment industry". The event brought together senior HR managers, DEI experts, and academics to discuss the implementation of the new CFA European DEI Code and how it integrates with local practices and regulations.

The roundtable provided a great opportunity for industry leaders to exchange ideas on addressing key DEI challenges, with a particular focus on the gender pay gap and implementation difficulties. These were identified as priority areas where the DEI Code can help promote real, measurable progress in the investment sector.

Sarah Maynard, Global Senior Head of DEI at CFA Institute, and Josina Kamerling, Head of Regulatory Outreach for EMEA, explained how the DEI Code offers a clear framework for institutions to incorporate DEI principles into their operations, covering areas such as talent acquisition, promotion, and leadership development.

A key outcome of the roundtable was the initial step toward creating an Italian addendum to the European DEI Code. This addendum will be adapted to the specific legal and cultural context of Italy, providing local financial firms with a valuable tool to strengthen their DEI efforts. The discussions and materials from the event will help shape this document, which aims to make the Italian investment industry more inclusive and fairer.

Participants found the roundtable to be a valuable opportunity to share ideas and strategies, with the overall goal of creating a more diverse and inclusive investment profession.

We also welcome further contributions or suggestions from the broader community regarding the development of the Italian addendum to the DEI Code. Your input will be invaluable in ensuring that the addendum reflects the needs and challenges of the Italian market. Please feel free to reach out if you would like to contribute at segreteriacfaitalia@cfasi.it.

Stay tuned for upcoming developments as we work towards the official launch of the addendum and new initiatives to promote DEI in the Italian financial sector!
